This historic property has an exceptional sense of grandeur about it - it's like staying in a stately home, the rooms are enormous if somewhat tired decor. It's a bit weird staying in a room only place - we've always had breakfast in other places we've stayed, but this is not an option, but that does make this place cheaper. There were several cafes and takeaways just down the road so getting food wasn't really a problem. We stayed here to be close to West Calder Dog's Trust to visit our new pup, but discovered some exquisite towns and countryside around Lanarkshire that we never knew about and would heartily recommend

The house is like something from 'The Adams Family' and set in beautiful grounds. Really breathtaking historic interior, (we have never stayed in such a grand house before!) albeit a little tired decor wise and fairly basic en-suite facilities. We didn't know the area at all, but there are some stunning places to visit including the astonishing World Heritage site New Lanark in easy travelling distances. We couldn't understand how it was so cheap until we got there and discovered it was room only! (Several basic cafe / fast food restaurants within a short drive)

I was staying in Auchter room, in the ground floor: felt like I was sleeping inside the former library of the historic manor, and it was a snuggy experience. Everything was clean and nice, with a comfy bed. The outside of the property is charming and surrounded by vegetation and a nice flower garden. The room was so spacious, with a big TV and old-fashioned furniture matching the decor -- however it did not feel dated at all. The complimentary tea was a nice touch. And the smell of the soap was absolutely delightful!

The building is stately and picturesque. There's a beautiful stained glass window between the first and second floors. Whenever I asked for more towels or coffee supplies, they were immediately provided. I knew in advance that they don't provide breakfast. I found out that there aren't many options for several miles. Then I discovered the Morrison's a little over 2 miles away has a great cafe open from 8 am, inexpensive, and they cook simple breakfasts like toast, eggs, sausage.

Room was very spacious, very clean, beds very comfortable & ensuite bathroom was a bonus as it stated it had a private bathroom. Nice touch having toiletries provided. Tea & coffee facilities in the room as well. Our stay was very quiet in the main, hotel is situated back from the road. This hotel is definitely worth the money. Nice touch having the history of the building on an A4 sheet.
